Bibliography...
Final images- my partners design...
I feel that i managed to create my partners design really well, i felt confident in what i was doing and i managed to handle the timings well giving myself enough time to add finishing touched, i feel as though i could have added more defined curls into the side of her hair that was voluminous and messy, however she did inform me after the assessment that she was really pleased with the outcome. i think her look works really well and comes across even better in the pictures. I felt as though i was given enough time to prepare myself and be confident in my application of her hairstyle. The design suited her hair well, although she has thin hair once i had backcomb the curls to add lots more volume i was able to create the shape she desired.
I feel as though i kept my station nice and tidy throughout the assessment and everything was easily accessible to me throughout my application of her hair design. I was really pleased with my application and the outcome of it.
My final images- self evaluation...
These are my final images for a contemporary Elizabethan image, a close up, profile and shoulder length shot. Im really please with the outcome and i feel it worked really well. I really like the texture and shape created in my hair and i think my design was really well suited to my hair and what i could do with it. I feel the headpiece i used added interest and was inspired by the sorts of extravagant and over the top pieces the Elizabethans were seen to wear. This is what made me add such an over the top pieced, i also liked how it added height which was what i was after. However i like how the head piece was a far more contemporary take.
I feel as though this could have been improved however. I think the shape should have sat more on top of my head rather than towards the back i think it works in the profile image however in the other 2 that are more head on pictures i don't really like the shape its creating i had envisioned something to sit higher on top of the head, i feel in the first 2 images it looks more like its slumped and you can't really get a feel for the shape. Although i do like how the fishtail plait added further interest and contemporary quirks.
My presentation...
These are the slides from my presentation to show my historical knowledge, my understanding between contemporary and classic looks, 3 hair design and what inspired me to sketch them and my chosen hair design and experimentation with that design.
Salina Snow as a contemporary reference...
I went to see the Selina Snow exhibition in the Southampton art gallery. I managed to take a few pictures of her canvases. She likes to work a lot with bright colours and always makes strong references to her child hood and culture combined with the modern day. Here are some images of her work.

- Alvin Ailey was a choreographer in the 20th century
- He changed dance as we know it
- He created the first all black dance company, which was unheard of in his time
- This really changed the way people looked at the arts and in particular dance and culture within it
- Due to his courage and risk when he was beginning his own company, this had a large impact on what dance is today
- He is now a very respected figure within the world of dance
Inspiration in other places...
When i began to flick through all my photos i found some images i had taken when i was in New York. These consisted of buildings, ceilings, monuments etc i found that they really inspired me in terms of the richness i was looking at for the elizabethan project i am currently working on so i thought i would just share those images here.
A wall inside the Rockefeller centre
The ceiling inside the main part on grand central station
The ceiling in the entrance hall to grand central station
Entrance hall in the Rockefeller centre
A monument from the top of the world trade centre
A monument at the corner of central park
Inspiration from a magazine...
I was flicking through the pages of Vogues December issue when i found a shoot that so obviously screamed contemporary Elizabethan that i would have been foolish not to have documented it.
This shoot was title still life and the caption quoted "Fall for a season well versed in dark beauty. The new masters brim with opulent fabrics, pearl drops and exquisite hand crafted detail" This quote alone is enough to send the imagination wild. When i read this i imagined velvet, rain drops, rick coloured stones, elizabethan fabrics of flowers and leaves.
I really like these images and i like the dark theme he has kept through out, although some of the models are styled in white garments there is still a glumness about the photo which could be seen to reflect the darker ways in which they lived.

Inspiration from a book...
When i was sat in Sharon's office she handed me a book to browse through. When i was flicking through i found some images that might act as inspiration and so i thought I would just document those here.
This is the book i was looking through
This is a mixture of Elizabethan inspired patterns and make-up, i could see the historical references straight away and this is something i wish to achieve in my own final design. A look that when you see it you can automatically think Elizabethan but with a modern twist.

Hair studio- Practical- week 10- Timed assessment group B...
During week 10 it was Becky’s turn to create my hair design on me during my final assessment here are a few images of how it turned out:
I feel as though Becky managed to really grasp the concept of the texture and volume i wanted to reflect, the shape was perfect and exactly how i envisioned it. I think it could have been improved by being higher up on the head and sitting more on top rather than at the back, however i think that in the pictures it comes across really well.
